Specialty coffee, minus the snobbery
Downtown Roasters started in 2021 at Pressed Coffee & Books on Mahantongo Street with a simple idea: specialty coffee should be fun and accessible. Great coffee for the people who live here, at a fair price, with names you can say out loud.
Small batches, every time
Everything we sell is roasted in small 5 lb batches. That's slower than a big roaster, and it's the point: every batch gets watched, tasted and adjusted, and nothing sits in a warehouse.
An electric roaster
We roast on The Bellwether, an all-electric roaster that runs without natural gas. It lets a downtown storefront roast cleanly, right where you drink the coffee.
Where the coffee comes from
We buy our green coffee through Bellwether, which works directly with farms and cooperatives and has committed to living-income sourcing for farmers. Recent lots include women-led organic collectives in Huila, Colombia, a family farm in Chirinos, Peru, and a cooperative of small producers in Ocotepeque, Honduras.
Fresh to your door
Our goal is simple: roasted fresh and shipped within two days. Coffee is at its best in the weeks after roasting, so that's when it should reach you.
What's next
With our new look we're releasing new small-batch coffees and some exciting single origins in 2027. The core four stay: The Coaltown Blend, Barista Chit Chat, Workflow and Jitterless.
